Projects

Latin Arc is a platform for the exchange and creation of projects whose aim is to foster cooperation among its members and forge solid partnerships between the network’s local administrations and other organisations from the territory in order to strive for continuity and submit joint proposals to EU funding programmes.

As regards social cohesion, the association focuses its efforts on the promotion of equality, the impact of demographic changes and migrations, the promotion of intercultural and intergenerational dialogue as well as other issues such as the health and welfare of the population, the promotion of active citizenship and the protection of citizens’ rights. Furthermore, the network valorises the common Mediterranean artistic, cultural, material and non-material heritage which it sees as a compendium of shared values. In the pursuit of social cohesion, Latin Arc also promotes the development of competitiveness, innovation and sustainable economy in its territories. It seeks to encourage employment policies and measures, enhance the growth of SMEs and it also engages in the promotion of its territories. As regards territorial cohesion, the network concentrates its efforts on multi-level governance, spatial planning and local development but also on connection infrastructure, the fight against global warming and the adaptation to its impacts and, more specifically, research and use of sustainable energies, the protection of natural spaces and biodiversity as well as agriculture policies. The network establishes institutional relations and decentralised cooperation actions among its members and other local entities in the Mediterranean basin with the aim of reinforcing capacity-building within their specific competences.

LOCAL-CUBIAM

LOCAL-CUBIAM
Through the LOCAL-CUBIAM project, we will map out the Mediterranean fruit and vegetable varieties that have been largely ignored. Tellingly, some of these varieties have nearly disappeared since the start of the Green Revolution, which was initiated by Norman Borlaug in the sixties. In promoting these crop varieties, the LOCAL-CUBIAM project aims to articulate a larger strategy for the recovery of plant genetic resources in the Mediterranean. Such resources constitute the basis of the Mediterranean diet. Furthermore, this is yet another way to preserve and enhance the Mediterranean natural heritage. Thus, this initiative shall also provide incentives for the recovery of traditional cultivation methods. With the appropriate local management strategies, this project could become an effective tool for social inclusion through the creation of social orchards. Moreover, the promotion of youth employment and training shall be reinforced by other related activities such as transhumance, gastro-tourism and the agri-food industry.
