Seventh World Urban Forum in Medellín

The 7th UN-HABITAT World Urban Forum will take place April 5-7 2014 in the city of Medellín, Colombia, and is expected to attract 10,000 participants from 160 countries. The main discussion theme of this 7th Forum is ‘Urban Equity in Development - Cities for Life’ and its aim is to analyse the concept of urban equity and its position in the world today, debate on new initiatives and strategies to integrate this concept into the development agenda and establish guidelines to make cities more equitable. In addition, it will establish the guidelines for Habitat III, the third United Nations conference on housing and sustainable urban development, planned for 2016.

Among the sessions planned in the programme and of interest to local governments are the session on April 6 of the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA) and the Round Table of Mayors on the 8th, which will be debating the role of local and regional governments in the new Post-2015 Development Agenda. Barcelona Provincial Council, as president of the UCLG Committee on Decentralisation and Local Self-Government, will officially launch the GOLD III Report on basic services for all in an urbanising world.

From Arco Latino we believe that this Forum is an interesting initiative that places the urban and local issues at world level.
