Fight against alien invasive species

Project Description

The increasing number of alien invasive species is currently posing a serious threat to biodiversity and its consequences can already be felt in many towns. When species settle outside their range, an environmental imbalance follows and this can cause profound alterations in ecosystems. Actually, the presence of alien invasive species has serious economic and health implications and is therefore a potential threat for the well-being of the population.

This project focuses on prevention, erradication and awareness-raising, all of which are extremely important in the fight against this threat. In this context, local administrations and entities are well placed to tackle this problem due to their proximity to the local population and the alien invading species.

The main actions of the project are the following:

  • Study and mapping of Alien Invasive Species in the Jaén Province.

  • Training for local officers on Alien Invasive Species.

  • Promotion of environmental education programmes in the Alien Invasive Species centres.

  • Creation of information materials on Alien Invasive Species.

  • Awareness-raising campaigns among the local population on the problems of Alien Invasive Species.
