Latin Arc at the IEMED seminar on “EuroMed Priorities and European Cooperation Programmes”

The seminar “EuroMed Priorities and European Cooperation Programmes” was held at the Barcelona-based IEMED (Catalan for European Institute of the Mediterranean) last July 7th. Key regional actors – such as the Union for the Mediterranean – Catalan local and regional representatives as well as Technical Secretary representatives of the InterregMed and ENI-CBC cooperation programmes took part in this event.

Participants to the seminar addressed two key aspects: the bilateral and regional dimension of the European Neighbouring and Partnership Instrument and the role of European delegations in the EU funding mechanisms. They also presented their strategic lines as well as the main themes of the Interreg Med and ENI-CBC Territorial Cooperation Programmes.

The Latin Arc Executive Secretariat presented the network’s main strategic lines regarding territorial cooperation at European and Mediterranean scale. The network defined itself as a platform for technical and political cooperation among local and intermediate administrations whose primary aims are: to define a strategy of integrated development in the Latin Arc, to address the most pressing issues for the region (innovation, employment, climate change, sustainable tourism, decentralized cooperation) to achieve a common local stance in the Northern Mediterranean and to promote cooperation with the South Mediterranean.

Once more the Latin Arc network has expressed its commitment to territorial cooperation which originated with the network’s participation in the Marina-Med Horizontal Project. Tellingly, the Executive Secretariat has submitted a project proposal to the 2015 November call which has successfully passed the first phases of evaluation.
